Yes, you can mix and master a Suno song — and most of them badly need it. Raw Suno exports routinely land quiet and inconsistent (in one published 12-export test, the median was -15.2 LUFS, with two-thirds below Spotify's reference level), carry a characteristic low-mid pileup around 250–500Hz, and wear that glossy artificial ambience engineers have started calling the "Suno sheen." Some of that is fixable by a human with real monitoring. Some of it is printed into the audio forever. This post is the honest map of which is which.

I'll say up front what almost no page ranking for suno mixing and mastering will tell you: nearly all of them are AI-mastering products whose answer to "my AI song sounds artificial" is another algorithm. Full Disclosure: I Use These Tools Too

2. The 250–500Hz blanket. With no engineer carving space between instruments during "recording," the low-mids pile up. It reads as a blanket over the speakers — full but not clear.
3. The sheen. A baked-in synthetic ambience, worst on vocals. This is the single biggest "that's AI" tell.
4. No real stereo stage. Elements arrive centered-ish and vague; nothing was ever placed.
5. Top-end roulette. Harsh at 3–8kHz on some genres, dull on others, plus occasional digital hiss and hi-hats mixed like they owed someone money.

The Single Biggest Upgrade: Replace the Vocal

If you only do one thing beyond mastering, do this: keep the AI instrumental, cut the AI vocal, and record a human voice. The vocal is where every listener's AI-detector lives — it carries most of the sheen, all of the warble, and none of the micro-imperfection that makes a performance feel inhabited. Suno's native two-stem split (vocals/instrumental) is clean enough to build on, and a properly recorded, properly mixed human vocal over an AI instrumental crosses the line from "AI song" to "song."

It's also the move that carries your track across the industry's own line. Remember Generated vs. Assisted? A human lead vocal over the AI instrumental is precisely what the "Assisted" category describes — which changes how platforms label you, strengthens your distributor's human-contribution case, and, more importantly, changes what the song is. Which brings us to the part nobody reads until it bites them.

Can You Actually Release This? (The 2026 Rules)

Short version: yes, with conditions — and the conditions changed a lot in the last year.

• Suno rights: if you generated the track on a paid plan (Pro/Premier), Suno assigns you ownership and commercial rights. On the free tier, Suno owns the output and it's non-commercial only — and upgrading later is not retroactive. Regenerate the track on a paid plan before you spend a dollar promoting it.
• Spotify now backs a granular AI-disclosure credit standard (which parts were AI: vocals, instrumentation, post-production) and has purged tens of millions of spam tracks. Disclosure is becoming a metadata field, not a scarlet letter.
• DistroKid accepts AI music with an explicit disclosure checkbox that feeds those Spotify AI credits.
• TuneCore requires "meaningful human contribution" for heavily-AI tracks. A real mix, a real master, and a re-recorded vocal are meaningful human contribution — the paper trail of hiring an engineer is itself part of your case.
• Udio, for what it's worth, disabled downloads entirely after its label settlement — it's a streaming walled garden now. If you're exporting AI songs to release in 2026, you're almost certainly a Suno user, which is why this post is about Suno.

My Actual Position on AI Tracks

I don't think AI songs are beneath working on, and I don't think a $10 robot master makes them release-ready. Both takes are lazy. Here's the frame I actually use: these models train on what already exists, so they're structurally backward-looking — a machine that averages the past. That means the two things a model can't give you are exactly the two things worth investing in: a distinct sonic identity and a real relationship with an audience. Reach is rented; audience is owned. An AI track that sounds like the average of its genre can ride an algorithm for a week, but it converts listeners into followers at close to zero, because there's nothing there to keep.

So the practical question for your Suno track isn't "is AI music legitimate" — it's where the track sits between demo and finished record, because that decides the right move:

• It's a sketch you love: treat it as the demo it is. Re-cut it properly — real vocal, real arrangement decisions, the AI version as your reference. This is the only path to a record nobody can clock.
• It's genuinely close: stems + remix + master. Fix the mud, stage it in stereo, control the loudness, reduce the sheen. It will sound professional; the vocal will still be what it is.
• It's content, not a record: master it for loudness and move on. Not everything needs the full treatment, and I'd rather tell you that here than invoice you for it.
